The luxury real estate market has witnessed some of the most extravagant property sales in recent years, with prices soaring to unprecedented heights. These record-breaking transactions not only reflect the immense wealth of the buyers but also underscore the allure of owning a piece of architectural and historical significance.

1. The One, Bel Air, California – $500 Million

Topping the list is "The One," a 105,000-square-foot megamansion located in Bel Air, California. Developed by Nile Niami, this property was initially listed for $500 million, making it the most expensive residential listing in the United States at the time. Despite its ambitious design and scale, the property faced financial challenges, leading to its eventual sale at a bankruptcy auction for $141 million in 2022. The mansion boasts 20 bedrooms, 30 bathrooms, a nightclub, a bowling alley, and a 50-seat movie theater, among other lavish amenities. 

2. 220 Central Park South Penthouse, New York – $238 Million

In 2019, hedge fund billionaire Ken Griffin purchased a quadplex penthouse at 220 Central Park South in Manhattan for $238 million, setting a record for the most expensive home ever sold in the U.S. Designed by architect Robert A.M. Stern, the residence offers panoramic views of Central Park and features luxurious interiors with private elevators and expansive living spaces. 

3. Lauder Greenway Estate, Greenwich, Connecticut – $138.83 Million

The Lauder Greenway Estate, also known as Copper Beech Farm, is a 50-acre property in Greenwich, Connecticut. Built in 1896, the estate includes a 15,000-square-foot mansion with 12 bedrooms and seven bathrooms, set amidst meticulously landscaped gardens and a private beach. In 2023, it was sold for $138.83 million, making it one of the most expensive residential sales in U.S. history. 

4. Palazzo di Amore, Beverly Hills, California – $195 Million

Palazzo di Amore is a 53,000-square-foot estate in Beverly Hills, California, developed by real estate billionaire Jeff Greene. The property features 12 bedrooms, 25 bathrooms, a 15,000-square-foot entertainment complex, a 24-car garage, and a vineyard. Listed at $195 million in 2014, it was one of the most expensive homes for sale in the U.S. at that time. 

5. The Whale, Figure Eight Island, North Carolina – $13.9 Million

In 2024, "The Whale," an oceanfront mansion on Figure Eight Island near Wilmington, North Carolina, was sold for $13.9 million, setting a record for the state's most expensive residential real estate transaction. The 6,700-square-foot home, designed by architect John Stirewalt, features five bedrooms and eight bathrooms, with exteriors made of imported white cedar. 

6. Dune House, East Hampton, New York – $66.75 Million

Dune House, a historic Shingle-style home in East Hampton, New York, was sold for $66.75 million in 2025. Originally listed for $79.5 million, the 110-year-old property was designed by Grosvenor Atterbury for former U.S. Treasury Secretary William H. Woodin. The sale ranks among the priciest deals in the Hamptons that year.

7. Gilberton Mansions, Adelaide, Australia – $11.17 Million and $10.25 Million

In Adelaide, South Australia, two luxury mansions in the affluent suburb of Gilberton were sold in high-profile eight-figure deals. The property at 8 Edwin Terrace set a new suburb record with a sale price of $11.17 million, while another mansion at 26 James Street sold for $10.25 million. Both properties feature grand neo-classical designs and extensive amenities. 

8. Cremorne Point Apartment, Sydney, Australia – $12 Million

A four-bedroom apartment on Cremorne Road in Cremorne Point, Sydney, was sold for $12 million, making it the highest-priced apartment sale in the area that year. The apartment offers over 250 square meters of internal space with panoramic views of Mosman Bay and is part of a boutique block of just four residences

9. Irma Serrano Mansion, Mexico City – $13 Million

The neoclassical mansion of Mexican singer, actress, and politician Irma Serrano, known as "La Tigresa," is listed for sale at $13 million. Located in the exclusive Lomas de Chapultepec neighborhood of Mexico City, the 21,500-square-foot estate features items linked to Mexican imperial and presidential history, reflecting Serrano's lavish tastes and cultural significance. 

10. Naples Waterfront Estate, Florida – $225 Million

In Naples, Florida, a sprawling 15-acre waterfront estate was sold for $225 million, setting a new all-time record for the state. The sale is part of a broader trend reshaping Florida's luxury housing market, with other significant transactions in Miami Beach and Palm Beach
